Fort Tilden-Jacob Riis Parks - Queens - NYC
I’ve only just begun my explorations of Fort Tilden - Jacob Riis Parks. I will be returning in the near future for a dedicated tour of the neighborhood, so please keep checking the Updates page and my YouTube channel!
Along the Rockaways of the Atlantic Ocean are the Fort Tilden-Jacob Riis Parks. They are flanked by Breezy Point and Neponsit to the west and east, while the small neighborhood of Roxbury is to the north.

The Neighborhood
Fort Tilden-Jacob Riis Parks feature beaches along the Atlantic Ocean as well as sports and leisure fields and picnic areas.
Fort Tilden-Jacob Riis Parks and Beaches are two of the most popular outdoor destinations in New York City. Located in the Rockaways, in Queens, both parks boast miles of sandy beaches, bike trails, and picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean. Fort Tilden is known for its historic military structures, bunkers, and abandoned artillery batteries. Moreover, the park's secluded beaches provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. In contrast, Jacob Riis Park has a more inviting beachfront scene, with various concessions, volleyball courts, and playgrounds for kids. Overall, both parks provide a perfect opportunity to escape the city and enjoy some fun in the sun.
Fort Tilden and Jacob Riis Parks and Beaches are popular seaside destinations in New York City, each with its own unique history. Fort Tilden was built in the early 1900s as a defense post during World War I, and was later used as a training ground for soldiers during World War II. After the wars, the site was converted into a public park and beach, and is now known for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. Jacob Riis Park, on the other hand, was established in the 1930s as a public beach and park by the National Park Service, and is named after the early 20th century social reformer and photographer Jacob Riis. Today, both of these parks and beaches offer visitors a chance to relax in the sun, swim in the ocean, and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
