Brooklyn Photo Tour - July 26, 2022

This was the second half of my tour through the scenic and historic neighborhood of Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. As a bonus, I toured the Highland Park subsection, with its lofty views over Brooklyn, all the way to the Rockaways. The cloud cover made the day a bit more challenging overall, but the spirit of the neighborhood shines through, nevertheless.

Manhattan Photo Tour - February 5, 2023

It was chilly day in early February when I decided to walk all of 3rd Avenue - from its origin as Bowery, in Chinatown, to its terminus at 128th Street in East Harlem.

Cypress Hills Page: Complete!

I’m happy to announce that, with the publishing of its YouTube video, another section of Brooklyn is now complete: Cypress HIlls!

This means that I’ve spent enough time and taken enough photos in this neighborhood to finalize its page here at CityNeighborhoods.NYC..

I am looking forward to returning in the near future to discover and capture more of its rich history and visual style.

In the meantime, enjoy the results:

Brooklyn Photo Tour - July 23, 2022

I decided to take two days to tour the East New York sub-neighborhood of Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. This is the first half of the tour, including the subsection of City Line. While mostly residential, this part of Brooklyn also has plenty of commerce, history, and scenic settings.

2023: Year In Preview

When in the midst of a large, long-term project it is sometimes helpful to pause for a moment and take a look back. It can help paint a vivid image of where you have been, and where you need or want to go next. The map below is a perfect encapsulation of that idea. As of this writing, you can see a visual representation of every neighborhood I have set foot in to photograph throughout the NYC boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens:

Map of Visited NYC Neighborhoods

Map of Visited NYC Neighborhoods

In the image, bright, vivid neighborhoods are the places that I have thoroughly visited. These typically have several hundred photos and a video on YouTube.

Neighborhoods with lighter shades of color are the ones I have spent at least some time photographing. These are all in various states of completion, but warrant at least one full day more of dedicated photography.

The grayed out neighborhoods are the ones that, as of today, that I have yet to visit and photograph in any capacity.

As such, my first goal for 2023 is going to be to try and visit each of these “missing” neighborhoods in order to create corresponding pages here for the site. Afterwards, I’ll begin visiting incomplete neighborhoods to slowly fill in and complete the map.

Along the way, I have more Special Projects (such as more avenues in Manhattan) to provide some needed variety.

It’ll be interesting, come next Yuletide, to sit down and look back on the year and see just how close to these goals I’ve managed to come.

In the meantime, I look forward to sharing the results of my progress, as well as the rest of my 2022 photo shoots — and appreciate you sharing the journey with me!

Brooklyn - Queens Photo Tour - July 22, 2022

This was the second half of my tour through Bushwick, Brooklyn. Starting at the Wilson Avenue L Train Station, and working my way eastward along Knickerbocker, Irving, Wyckoff, and Cypress Avenues, I also enjoyed a brief foray into Ridgewood, Queens.

New York City Photo Tours - Autumn 2016

This collection represents a handful of smaller photo tours to close out what was a productive year of New York City neighborhood photography. Although some photos have since been lost, this is the last stand before a long period of inactivity. As you can see, street photography and night photography remained a focus.
