Queens Photo Tour - January 15, 2023

The first photo shoot of 2023! This was a modest, low-key start to photography in 2023. With plenty of neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens to visit this year, the goal was simple: Begin. It was a cold, blustery afternoon, offering crisp visuals and the low-angle sun provided dramatic lighting.

Queens Photo Tour - July 20, 2022

This is the very first photo tour with a new camera: A Canon 6D Mk II which included an upgrade in camera body, along with an automatic GPS log. Eager to see the results of a new sensor and camera, I spent most of the day walking through Ozone Park. It was a lovely, hot, summer's day. And the new camera performed wonderfully.

Brooklyn Photo Tour - July 19, 2022

I spent a picture-perfect summer's day in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Beginning at Broadway Junction in Cypress Hills before connecting with Bushwick Avenue, I spent the day traversing the north-south avenues of Bushwick, Evergreen, Central, and Wilson. Bushwick is an historic New York City neighborhood and this was the first half of my explorations of this iconic and vibrant neighborhood.

Queens Photo Tours - July, 2022

Amongst my longer photo tours of July, I took some time for smaller walks through Queens. It's always good to have camera in hand while out and about and here are some of the highlights of those smaller excursions.

Queens Photo Tour - July 17, 2022

The vibrant environs of South Richmond were the primary focus of my photo tour on July 17, 2022. The skies were a challenging mix of gray with occasional blue. But the residential streets and busy commercial avenues made for a rewarding trek that also included Richmond Hill and Ozone Park.

Williamsburg Update

I’d like to take a moment to share some of the behind-the-scenes thinking that goes into how CityNeighborhoods.NYC organizes the many neighborhoods of the city (and, therefore, the photos that have been taken).

Today’s focus for revision is the large, northwestern Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg. Depending on who you ask, it’s either a large neighborhood encompassing both East and West Williamsburg, or a collection of smaller enclaves.

Map of Williamsburg Neighborhoods - Brooklyn - NYC

After having visited the neighborhood many times as a photographer, and countless times socially, I’ve come to recognize the distinct flavor of its different subsections. So, in the interest of making it easier to manage to large numbers of photos I have taken (and plan to take), as well as to better represent each part of this iconic neighborhood, I decided to split “Williamsburg” into five subsections:

  • East/Industrial Williamsburg (East of Bushwick Avenue)

  • Northside Williamsburg (North-numbered streets, West of Union Avenue & North of Grand Street)

  • Los Sures - Southside Williamsburg (South-numbered streets, West of Union Avenue and South of Grand Street)

  • South Williamsburg (South of Division Avenue)

  • Williamsburg (between Union and Bushwick Avenues)

Each area does indeed include distinct features and destinations. And, hopefully, by being more specific in naming these neighborhoods, it’ll be easier to learn about and appreciate them.

As an added bonus, this also helps focus my efforts to better represent this historic and iconic region of Brooklyn!

Manhattan Photo Tour - July 15, 2022

With a couple of hours of time on hand before meeting a friend for cocktails on July 15, 2022, I chose to do a brief tour of the city. Afterwards, I had the chance to indulge in some nighttime city photography. Always a treat!
