Brooklyn - Queens - June 12, 2022 - J-Z Elevated Line

On a rainy day in June 2022, I decided to walk the J-Z elevated line. The day began in Richmond Hill, Queens, on Jamaica Avenue and continued through Woodhaven. As the train line along Jamaica Avenue crossed into Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, it turned south on Crescent Street, then west on Fulton Street where it met Broadway Junction. From here the line ran above Broadway, straddling Bedford-Stuyvesant and Bushwick, before entering South Williamsburg and Williamsburg.

Brooklyn - Queens - June 4, 2022 - The "Grand" Tour

On June 4, 2022 I decided to take a "Grand Tour" of Brooklyn and Queens. The goal was to begin at Grand Avenue in Elmhurst, Queens at Queens Boulevard and follow it through Maspeth until it became Grand Street in East Williamsburg. At the BQE, I followed a meandering route through Williamsburg, South Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Bushwick.

Queens - May 30, 2022 - Briarwood

On May 30, 2022 I set out to tour the Queens neighborhood of Briarwood. I began my journey there along Jamaica Avenue, passing through Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill and Jamaica Center - the latter two locations would mark my return journey.

Enjoy the walk through the urban settings of Jamaica (Avenue and Center) into the bucolic Briarwood and back!

Queens - May 22, 2022

Join me on my photo shoot through Queens on May 22, 2022.

The project on this day was to walk to the start of 108th Street in Forest Hills and follow it north until it ended in East Elmhurst, near LaGuardia Airport. After that, I turned southward and followed 111th, then 110th streets back to the beginning.

The weather started sunny and clear, giving the early-morning photos in Kew Gardens a heavenly glow. The skies clouded slightly as I moved north into Corona and North Corona. But by the time I left East Elmhurst, the weather turned clear - and hot - for the return journey through the well-manicured estates in Forest Hills.

Neighborhoods Visited: Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Corona, North Corona, East Elmhurst

Miles walked: 11.3

May 2022

If April of this year saw me getting my feet wet in the waters of photography, May was a deep dive into uncharted waters. During May, I embarked on excursion along Queens Boulevard, Austin Street, 108th Street, Main Street, Parsons Boulevard, and more. These trips often took over 10 miles of walking to complete, resulting in thousands of captures.

But it wasn’t all large-scale endeavors. Here, I’ve collected the best photos from my smaller, shorter trips - including a few that didn’t fit neatly into my special projects. Enjoy these photos from Kew Gardens, Forest Park, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven and Long Island City.

Queens - May 12, 2022

On May 12, 2022 I set out on a relatively short walk through the neighborhoods of Kew Gardens, Forest Park, Richmond Hill and, in a first for me, Woodhaven.

I took the opportunity to experiment with exclusively using prime lenses during the trek. Typically I use the all-around 24-10mm f4/L lens. However, on this day, I rotated through my three prime lenses:

  • 35mm f/2

  • 50mm f/1.8

  • 85mm f/1.8

The results were quite pleasing for me - and I hope you enjoy them as well!
